Rev Ray’s November 27, 2021 Devotion

“Let all that I am praise the LORD; may I never forget the good things he does for me.” Psalm 103:2

“The things that I love and hold dear to my heart Are just borrowed, they're not mine at all; Jesus only let me use them to brighten my life, so remind me, remind me, dear Lord”

That song takes me back quite a few years, and I cannot get it out of my mind this morning. Sometimes Pat will ask me to remember something; and my usual answer is, “Okay, if you will remind me.”

We are incredibly good at forgetting the unforgettable things in life.  That is one reason we do a lot of repeating of things in our faith. The Lord commanded that our story be repeated over and over so that our children and their children’s children do not forget how great our God is.

Even if we think no one cares anymore; keep telling the story. The prodigal son’s life changed back for the good when he remembered the kindness of his Father. Somewhere in the middle of a confused and distracted society there will be other prodigals who will remember that there is a Heavenly Father who loves them; and it is time to go back home.

Do not say that no one is listening anymore so why keep telling the story. That is not ours to determine. We have a promise that His word will not return void, so keep repeating it. We all need to be reminded, because we all sometimes forget the unforgettable.

“Now, what was that song that I could not get out of my mind? O yes, this is it:”

“Roll back the curtain of memory now and then, show me where you brought me from and where I could have been; Just Remember I'm a human and humans forget, so remind me, remind me, dear Lord.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
