“Therefore, each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.” Ephesians 4:25

The Bible is clear that when we become Christians, we are no longer the person that we once were. As the song says, “As if till now I'd never lived. All that I'd done before won't matter anymore; I've just seen Jesus, and I'll never be the same again.”

We speak of the progress of society, but most are wondering, “Where is it?” Have we become anemic in integrity? It seems that dishonesty has become accepted as a normal way of life.

Dear Friend of God, here is another area where the Christian can be a true witness that Christ is alive and lives in us. This is a part of the “More Excellent Way” of life that happens when we Love God and one another. Speaking truthfully is simply a habit of the Spirit filled life. We are taught that our conversations are to be sincere, and our conscience clear. Remember that God is all-seeing, and all-hearing; and that our secrets are not secrets to him.

I find Matthew 12:36 a bit sobering; they are the words of Jesus: “But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken ”Why not sing the "Evening Prayer" in the morning? “If I have uttered idle words in vain… Dear Lord, Forgive.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
