Rev. Ray was born and raised in Pearisburg Virginia.  It was there that he gave his life to the Lord at an early age.  He grew up knowing that he had been called into ministry.  He met Pat in the seventh grade.  She sat in front of him in the classroom, she was his high school sweetheart.  They married in 1971 at Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Poplar Hill Va.  The same church that sent him into United Methodist ministry.

Ray joined the Air Force after graduation in 1969.  After they married they lived in Rapid City, South Dakota until his discharge in 1973.  In June 1975 he began ministry on the Garden - Keen Mt. Charge in Buchanan County Va.  The next appointment was the Graham Circuit in Bluefield, Va.   He pastored Kingsley and Hermon churches in Kingsport, Tn. for nineteen years; and then First UMC in Bluefield Va.  He came to Elizabethton in 2011.  These appointments make up more than forty years in ministry

Rev Ray attended Southwest Va. Community College, Bluefield College, and Duke Divinity School.

He and Pat have four children: Ray, Scotty, Amy and Bethany; they also have seven grandchildren.

“Pat and I count it all joy to be with this wonderful congregation of God’s family.”
